A Voluntary Reserve Officer role is suitable for someone looking to begin a career in practical wildlife conservation.

Role Description

Voluntary placements within the reserves team, based at either Pitsford Water Nature Reserve, Nene Wetlands or Northamptonshire sites. 

You will gain experience in all aspects of habitat management for conservation, including practical, survey and office based skills. As well as gaining knowledge and experience from working with the skilled reserves team, you will also get opportunities to work with and lead volunteer groups, participate with in-house training and receive external training and assessment in chainsaw use, brushcutter use and First Aid. 

Applicants should be reliable and able to commit to a minimum of 3 days per week for 9-12 months, be capable of using power tools and machinery and enjoy physical work outdoors in all weathers. Good team working skills and self-motivation are essential. Some previous experience of practical conservation work would be an advantage but is not essential. Travel expenses and a training budget are available.

Location: Pitsford Water Nature Reserve, Nene Wetlands or Lings Office, with travel for training and work on other reserves within the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.

Commitment required: An ideal candidate would be able to commit to 3-4 days per week for 9-12 months

Closing Date: Monday 3rd June 2024 at 9am with interviews held week commencing 10th June 2024.
