About the event

Join nature enthusiast and Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs, and Northants staff member Rebecca Neal for a night walk through Cambourne Nature Reserve and via public footpaths to Bourn Windmill. We'll walk around 3 miles (in total) at a gentle pace with bat detectors to hear these fascinating night-time hunters, and we'll also listen out for hooting owls and barking deer. We may even come across some glow worms!

This walk is aimed at adults but interested older children are welcome.

Additional information

  • This walk will take us off Cambourne Nature Reserve and into the surrounding countryside.  We will be returning on rustic footpaths in the dark, as well as negotiating narrow gates (there is a more accessible night walk which sticks to flatter paths in late August)
  • This event is weather dependent and may be cancelled at short notice
  • Please refer to our event terms and conditions webpage for details on refunds and cancellations, as well as general information about how we run our events
  • The benefits of joining the Wildlife Trust BCN include a reduced rate for events. Individual membership is from £4 a month.
  • Toilets and light refreshments will be available at the mill. Donations to the mill are welcome

Mobility

We aim to make our sessions as accessible as possible and are happy to make reasonable adjustments to ensure as many people as possible can enjoy them. We will be leaving the more accessible paths of Cambourne Nature Reserve to join more rustic paths towards Bourn Mill. You will need to be comfortable navigating the paths in the dark. Please contact us to discuss your accessibility needs.

What to bring

Please be prepared for cool weather. Long-sleeves and long trousers will protect against bites, stings and scratches. You will need sturdy footwear and a torch (we have some spare if needed).
