This role is to support our community work and events in Cambourne and nearby communities, as well as on or near our Trumpington Meadows Nature Reserve.  Examples of the kind of events we run are:

  • Family activities such as walks, outdoor art, and pond dipping, which happen during school holidays
  • Walks and talks for adults
  • Forest-school-style activities for home-school families
  • Pre-school sessions
  • Youth Rangers volunteering and social activities for secondary-age young people

Alongside a programme of events that we organise, we also attend community events like volunteer fairs, shows, and fetes, and occasionally work with schools.

A volunteer in this role might come along to the event to ensure participants get the most out of the activity, or help to set up, and/or they might support behind the scenes by publicising the event locally or helping to plan activities. Some example tasks are:

  • Keep track of equipment
  • Keep track of timing
  • Interact with participants by answering questions, pointing out wildlife, and keeping conversation flowing
  • Ensure people are following health and safety guidance
  • Be a back-marker
  • Help carry equipment
  • Help set up a gazebo
  • Chat with people about local wildlife and the Trust
  • Meet with the Communities and Wildlife Officer to plan an activity
  • Help create resources if needed (equipment supplied)
  • Put up posters locally
  • Publicise the event through local social media or community links
