About the event

Join this relaxing. sociable workshop in the peace and tranquillity of the Environmental Education Centre at Paxton Pits, to learn how to make a loaf of bread using the sourdough technique. In between kneading, discover more from Judith about the impact of ingredient and method choices on human and environmental health. This workshop forms part of The Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants work helping local residents make informed choices about sustainable lifestyles, which ultimately help local wildlife.

Judith Collini who will lead the session, runs Alpino Garden Farm in Catworth, where she grows seasonal fruit & veg in her no-dig market garden. She makes fresh sourdough bread weekly on her site with organic ingredients. Judith has a keen interest in the relationship between food, environment and human health. She also sells refillable dry foods and household liquids.

Includes ingredients and baking of one loaf, dough scraper and starter culture to take home.

Your loaf can be baked in Judith's bread oven at Alpino Market Garden and available to collect on Wednesday AM from Paxton Pits Environmental Education Centre or Alpino Garden Farm (your choice). Alternatively you can take the loaf home to bake yourself.

Participants need to bring a mixing bowl, whisk, large spoon, apron and a clean jar to take your sourdough starter mixture home in. (Optional digital scales).

Includes watching a short film together called 'The Economics of Eating'.

Please note the course will of course involve preparation of bread using flour containing gluten.

Suitable for adults.

The session will run in the classroom at the beautiful Paxton Pits Nature Reserve.
