About the event

This is part of a series of activities for families throughout the year on Trumpington Meadows Nature Reserve.

In this session, join the Cambridgeshire Mammal Group and Becca Badger to investigate the small mammals that live on Trumpington Meadows Nature Reserve. If you wish to join us the evening before (at 6pm, this is optional), we will be setting out humane small mammal traps, and then early morning we will check to see what we have caught. After we have recorded and released all of the animals, we will go for a short walk.

This session is perfect for ages 7-11 but older children will also enjoy it. It is not appropriate for children under 5 for health and safety reasons.

These are family sessions so children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. The sessions are designed for everyone to enjoy.

Mobility

We aim to make our sessions as accessible as possible and are happy to make reasonable adjustments to ensure as many people as possible can enjoy them.  Please contact us to discuss your accessibility needs. We will need to go off the path into rougher ground in order to set and collect the traps.

What to bring

To avoid bites, stings, sunburn, and scratches, long sleeves and long trousers are suggested for all participants. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy, and sturdy shoes. The sessions will go ahead even if it rains, so you may require waterproofs. It is unlikely but if it is especially windy or lightening is forecast, it may not  be advisable to run the session. If this happens, we will let you know as soon as possible and refund your money.
