About the event
This day provides an introduction to woodland management in Great Britain and a chance to actively help manage a local woodland. We will start with a short presentation at the church covering how woodlands have evolved, what impact humans have had, what the ecology of a well managed woodland looks like and what challenges woodland owners face today.
After a break for lunch we will walk across to Hay Wood, on Stopsley Common, to learn about the traditional technique of coppicing and how this site is currently being managed. This will include some practical work and the use of sharp tools.
We aim to return to the church by 3pm.
