About the event

The Devil’s Dyke is an impressive feature of the local landscape. Thought to be constructed by the Anglo-Saxons it stretches for nearly seven miles from Reach to Woodditton. Although thought to have originally had a defensive purpose, it is now a peaceful haven for wildlife. Much of its length is chalk grassland, which means it is home to some lovely and locally-unusual plants. These include Rock-rose, Sainfoin, Thyme, Pyramidal Orchid, Houndstongue and many more. Flowers are definitely the focus of this trip, but this is also a very good site for other wildlife and previous trips have yielded such treats as Barn Owl, Little Owl, Marsh Harrier, Yellowhammer and Grey Partridge, as well as good numbers of Hare.
