Ieva Piraga
Luton & Beds Youth Rangers at Flitwick Moor
Event details
About the event
Join Luton & Bedfordshire Youth Rangers for a practical conservation session at this unique wetland site.
We will undertake some scrub clearance before taking a walk around the reserve to explore its diverse habitats, from fen and wet woodland to species-rich meadows. Along the way, we will learn to spot seasonal berries, fungi and other fascinating signs of Autumn of this site of special scientific interest.
What to expect
The work will take place on the nature reserve (off the wooden boardwalk) and may involve:
- Uneven and wet ground
- Walking through overgrown patches of long grass and reeds
If you have any accessibility concerns or questions, please get in touch with us before the session.
What to wear
Please dress appropriately for the weather. We recommend:
- Sturdy boots with good ankle support due to uneven terrain or wellington boots if conditions are particularly wet
- Long trousers and long‑sleeved top to protect against thorny plants
- Hat and extra layers to help keep you warm and dry
What we provide
- Refreshments (hot drinks and biscuits)
- Safety gloves
Meeting point
We will meet at the reserves car park which is located at end of narrow, bumpy track off Maulden Road at Folly Farm.
Please note, there are no facilities on this reserve.
Time
10:00 am – 12:30 pm
