Cambridge Local Group Event: The University Museum of Zoology Cambridge or 'The House of Keeping & Forgetting': Adventures in Rediscovery & How to Make a Map
Event details
About the event
Biological museums are vast storehouses of information that are proving crucial for research into multiple aspects of biology, as well as tackling the biodiversity crisis. However, all too often specimens are hard to find or lacking in crucial information. In this talk and with examples, Russell will explore some of the ways that information about specimens can be lost over the years in museums, and how this crucial data can be rediscovered and pieced together again, to gain a deeper understanding of specimens and collections.
Russell is Collections Officer for Invertebrates & Archives in the Museum of Zoology in Cambridge, with over 20 years of experience in managing and curating biological collections.
This is a hybrid event. For in-person at the Main Seminar Room, New Museums Site, there is no need to book - please just turn up.
