Cambridge Local Group Event: 'Inclusive Natural History - Access and Outreach Work of the Museum of Zoology’
Event details
About the event
We are lucky to have such a richness of museums and nature on our doorstep here in Cambridge, but these spaces and experiences are not easy to access for so many people. For some there are physical barriers to being able to engage, for many it could be financial barriers, or lack of confidence in being in these spaces. At the Museum of Zoology we work to try to bring down these barriers to make our collections, and the natural world, more accessible to a wider audience. This talk will explore some of the ways we do this, including building a sense of belonging with co-curated exhibitions with sixth-form students, building confidence in being in nature with our schools outreach work, and bringing our collections and the world outside to blind and partially blind audiences using touch tours and audio description. We’ll explore how we use the connection between our Museum and local wildlife, and how exciting it is to see the creative responses of our audiences in the galleries, bringing fresh perspectives on our historic collections
