The 2.6 Challenge

The 2.6 Challenge

The perfect opportunity to get your staff working together and engaged with your Wildlife Trust partnership.
The 2.6 challenge is sweeping the nation this week, to save the country’s charities facing dramatic drops in income and capacity due to the Covid-19 crisis. Give your colleagues the chance to get active and work together to support your local wildlife through the Wildlife Trust BCN.

What is the 2.6 challenge?

The 2.6 challenge is a national fundraising campaign, organized by some of the biggest mass participation events in the country. It aims to raise vital funds for charities who have been affected by having to cancel fundraising events and are facing other drops in income.

To get involved, just dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and go to the 2.6 Challenge website. You can make a direct donation yourself, or set up a fundraising page and share your challenge with colleagues, family and friends.

The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing. The current Government advice is that you should only go out once a day for exercise, either alone or with members of your household. You are urged to say local and always keep more than two metres away from other people at all times.

    What's your challenge

Here are some ideas to add a wildlife theme to your challenge:

    • Observe the insect life in a patch of grass of 26 minutes
    • Learn 26 new birdsongs or butterflies
    • Go on a 2.6 mile nature walk
    • In your garden, make 2 changes for wildlife and photograph 6 species (and enter the Wildlife Gardening at Work Awards!)
    • Hop around your garden like a frog 26 times –  Get the kids to do this one!
    • Close your eyes for 26 minutes outdoors then notice how you see nature differently when you open them up
    • Identify 26 different species on your daily walk
    • Take 26 deep breaths in the garden/outdoors and see and smell the natural world
    • Collect 26 leaves and identify them when home

There are 5 easy steps to take part:

    1. Dream up your 2.6 challenge, individually or as a team
    2. Head to the 2.6 challenge webpage to donate £26 – or whatever you can afford – to the Wildlife Trust BCN - or to set up a fundraising page
