About the event

It's Youth Week with the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants! If you’re aged 16-25, join us on a unique safari-style conservation day at the Great Fen! You will visit various sites across the Great Fen, meeting the team and learning all about the project – from what we’re doing and why it’s important, to the different types of monitoring and practical conservation work taking place. Develop your expertise in plant, insect and bird ID, and learn practical conservation skills from experts in the field.

Timetable:

  • 9am: Drop off and sign-in at Ramsey Heights
  • 9am-10am: Moth ID with up-close encounters at Ramsey Heights
  • 10am-12:30pm: Meet the Reserves Team for practical conservation skills
  • 12:30pm: Lunch
  • 1pm-2pm: Behind the scenes tour of the paludiculture beds
  • 2pm-4pm: Visit to Rothschild Bungalow and practise ID skills at Woodwalton Fen

PLEASE NOTE: This timetable is subject to change at short notice (i.e. due to weather on the day) with replacement activities added if needed.

Please bring water and a packed lunch. Dress appropriately for the weather – layers/waterproofs or sun hats/sun lotion as needed. Long sleeves and trousers recommended. Please wear sensible boots or wellies.

Additional Information:

  • This is designed for participants to attend independently. We try to be as inclusive as possible, but this session may not suit every young person, and unfortunately, we cannot provide 1:1 support.
  • For attendees under 18, parents/guardians will be asked to fill out a consent form to include relevant concerns/issues to help us ensure participants get the most out of the session.
  • Bookings are not confirmed until we have received your paperwork.

A photographer may be present at the event and taking pictures for Wildlife Trust BCN use so please let us know if you'd rather not be included. Under 18s will have an adult asked to complete a media consent form.
