About the event

Please note this is an event for the Northants Nature Girls group, if you would like to join walks for the general public please visit here for all other bat walks.

The Nene Wetlands Nature Reserve is an ideal habitat for bats and a great place to see and hear them, with 5 different species regularly being recorded. We hope that the recent arrival of our family of beavers will further improve the reserve for bats.

Join the Northants Nature Girls for one of our popular evening bat walks around Skew Bridge Lake (also known as 'Bat Alley'), when staff and volunteers will be on hand to explain more about these amazing animals and show you how to use a bat detector (provided) to listen to the bat's echolocation calls and identify the species present.

We will also look out for our beaver family and will have a thermal imaging camera to help and try and spot them. Please note that although dusk is the ideal time for spotting beavers, we cannot guarantee sightings of them and will not be going into the beaver enclosure during this event (if you're interested in seeing what the beavers have been up to, look out for our beaver safari events).

Who are the Northants Nature Girls?

This is a group designed for all women (including trans, intersex and non-binary people) who love nature and the outdoors to meet like minded people, whilst enjoying time in nature. Most people attend these events alone, and is a great way to get chatting to some fellow nature lovers. Can't join us this time? We will be hosting monthly meetings throughout the year so keep your eyes peeled!

You can also join our Facebook group here, to connect with others and hear about upcoming events.

Please ensure you wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear and bring a torch if possible. Insect repellent is also advised.
