Taster session into foraging at Leagrave Park
Event details
About the event
This foraging taster session is organised as part of the Youth Week 2025 run by Wildlife Trust BCN (8-17th August). The aim of this week is to inspire and offer more nature-based activities for young people! And we thought a foraging walk would be a great opportunity to learn about the natural world on your doorstep!

This event is for 16-25 year olds.
We're delighted to offer this event free of charge, thanks to generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
During this session we will identify various hedgerow plants found at Leagrave Park. We will look at what is there to forage during the month of August, and the practice of gathering/ collecting plants for personal use. We will have a discussion on how foraging practices may foster nature connection!
For this foraging walk, we will meet in the car park in front of Marsh House Community Centre for 11am start. From there we will walk through the wetland and woodland habitats of the park, reach the source of River Lea, cross the ancient earthwork that is Waulud's bank, and complete the walk at the newly established Luton Henge. This is a fantastic new community space that celebrates the origins of Luton!
We will have some refreshments at the end of the session- including tasting of some herbal teas, and biscuits.
Please dress for the weather, and wear sturdy boots if possible as some of the paths on the way are soft and uneven. Please consider bringing a sun hat and sun cream for hot weather. In case of bad weather, we will use the nearby Marsh house for the indoor tasting session at the end of the walk. Don't forget to bring waterproofs!

Please note we will need parental consent forms filled in for under 18s, we'll email these to you once you have booked on.
