About the event

Owen Mountford and Jon Graham will be summarising their long-term project to map the distribution of the entire vascular flora and to characterise the plant assemblages that occur in the mainly artificial landscape of the fens.  Their project differs from the UK tradition of floras for administrative counties in that the focus is a landscape defined by topography, hydrology and soils. In recent years there has been a wider appreciation of the biodiversity of the fens, and this project has confirmed that many nationally rare wetland plants, such as lesser water-plantain and opposite-leaved pondweed, still have strongholds in the fenland area.
