About the event

Join staff and volunteers from the Luton Orchards Project, Wildlife Trust BCN and Penrose Roots to Recovery Gardens for Luton's second apple day. There are so many varieties of apples and orchard areas in Luton to enjoy and this day aims to celebrate that. Apple Day activities will include pressing your own apple juice (feel free to donate any surplus apples for pressing if you are lucky enough to have your own apple tree!), traditional games like apple bobbing, and making your own bird feeders to take home. There will be cakes and hot drinks available, and visitors will be able to buy a glass of freshly pressed apple juice. Enjoy acoustic music from a local ukulele band and meet local craftsman Dave as he demonstrates traditional wood whittling. You can also get creative at our art table and try drawing your very own tasty apple.

During the day, we will be running a guided walk around the Stockingstone Meadow area and the Bide-a-While orchards, starting at 1.30pm. There is a lovely, well hidden stretch of the River Lea to enjoy between the meadow/orchard area and bide a while, all just a few metres from the A6! 

Please note: 

• There is no charge for the entry, but please bring along spare change for drinks, cakes and apple juice!
• There is no need to book any of the Apple Day activities in advance. However, numbers on the guided walk are limited, so if you would like to join, please add your name to the list at the Wildlife Trust's information table on the day. This will help us ensure an enjoyable walk for everyone.
• In the event of bad weather (heavy rain or strong winds), we may need to cancel this event as all activities are taking place outdoors.
