About the event

Heritage Open Days is England's largest community-led festival of history and culture. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s FREE. Come and explore Woodwalton Fen NNR and enjoy the opportunity to go inside the historic Rothschild Bungalow. Pick up a trail leaflet and get to know the heritage and wildlife of this incredible site.

Built in 1911 as a base for research and summer retreats, this captivating building gives a glimpse into the past pursuits of the founder of the Wildlife Trusts and wildlife conservation as we know it. Join us for privileged access to a building not usually open to the public and discover how Charles Rothschild would have used it as a base for his field trips, studying moths and other insects. There will be staff and volunteers to talk to you about the history of the area and the plans for the future of the Great Fen.

Optional guided walks to learn more about the site and wildlife with a member of the Great Fen team are also available to book at 11am or 1.30pm. These are estimated to last approximately 1 hour. Suitable for families. Additional cost applies. Children under 12 can attend for free. Pre-booking required.

A photographer may be present at the event and taking pictures for Wildlife Trust BCN use so please let us know if you'd rather not be included. Children will have an adult asked to complete a media consent form.
