Cherry Plum Blossom by Steve Halton

Orchards East is an exciting environmental and cultural project covering six counties in the east of England - Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Orchards East, supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, is continuing to research and record old orchards across Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. Further details about the project can be found here.

Last call for volunteers for Orchards East!

Over the last 2 years the Bedfordshire and Luton Biodiversity Recording and Monitoring Centre and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Environmental Records Centre have been working with their counterparts in 4 other counties on a Heritage Lottery funded project, Orchards East, to investigate orchards across the East of England.  In Bedfordshire and Luton their dedicated volunteers have so far committed to survey just over half of the parishes within the county to find out where Orchards still exist and what kind of trees they contain.  They are still looking for volunteers for the remaining parishes, shown in pale green on the map.

As this aspect of the project will be finishing soon, if anyone is interested and would like to help with the surveys (in either Bedfordshire or Cambridgeshire), please contact the Orchards East Project Manager, Howard Jones, based at the University of East Anglia via email on howard.jones@uea.ac.uk
