Young People's Forum Creative Wildlife Watch Competition

(primary school age)

Our new Young People’s Forum invites you to enter our first creative competition. We want you to answer the question What does nature mean to you? in your own way. 

Whether you answer with your writing, drawing, or a combination of the two, just submit one side of A4 for your chance to win a fantastic selection of prizes! 

This competition closes on the 30th September 2022 at 9pm (GMT). Winners will be announced on this page. 

Theme 

The theme is What does nature mean to you? This will look different for every single person, so don’t be afraid to answer in your own special way. You can think about the question from any angle: from your favourite local wildlife to global environmental issues. 

What to submit 

Please send us one side of A4 showing your writing and/or drawings by email (see ‘How do I submit my entry?’ below). You can attach your A4 as a photo or in document/PDF form. 

What is the prize? 

The winner will get: 

  • their entry printed in the Spring 2023 issue of the Wildlife Watch newsletter (see terms and conditions) 

  • free entry to a regular Wildlife Watch or family event 

  • a pair of junior Opticron binoculars, so they can watch wildlife up close! 

Two runners up will also receive prizes: 

  • Second place: free entry to a regular Wildlife Watch or family event AND a bug house 

  • Third place: free entry to a regular Wildlife Watch or family event  AND a bee brick 

Who can enter? 

To enter, you must be of primary school age (under 11 years old) and resident in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, or Northamptonshire. For our full terms and conditions, please see below. 

How do I submit my entry? 

For a chance to win, get creative then ask your parent or guardian to send your side of A4 to communications@wildlifebcn.org by 30th September at 9pm.

Please use the subject line ‘What nature means to me’ and include the following information:

  • The entrant's first name
  • The entrant's age
  • The county you live in
  • The full name of the parent/guardian
  • Parent/guardian's confirmation that they consent to their child being entered into the competition
  • Attached photo or document/PDF of the entry

Terms and conditions

The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire September 2022 Wildlife Watch creative competition to win: 

  • your entry, or an extract of your entry, printed in the Spring 2023 issue of the Wildlife Watch newsletter 

  • free entry to a Wildlife Watch event 

  • a pair of junior Opticron binoculars 

Terms and Conditions: 

These terms and conditions govern The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire September 2022 Wildlife Watch creative competition. The competition organisers are the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire [WTBCN]. By accepting the Terms & Conditions of the competition, you have entered into an agreement with the organisers. 

The organisers reserve the right to modify these terms and conditions without notice. 

The competition opens on Saturday 2nd July at 9am and closes on Friday 30th September 2022 at 9pm. Submissions must be received by the closing date. 

The Wildlife Trust BCN reserves the right to withdraw the competition at any time. 

1: Eligibility 

The competition is open to children of primary school age (under 11 years old) resident in any of our three counties: Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, and Northamptonshire. 

By submitting an entry, parents or guardians of entrants under the age of 18 are giving their consent for that person to be entered into the competition.   

The Wildlife Trust BCN reserves all rights to disqualify you if your entry or conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition. 

The organiser’s decision on eligibility is final. 

2: How to Enter 

The competition opens on Saturday 2nd July 2022 at 9am and closes on Friday 30th September 2022 at 9pm (GMT). 

Entries must be submitted by a parent or guardian. Please email the child’s side of A4, attached in photo or document/PDF form, to communications@wildlifebcn.org by 30th September at 9pm. Please use the subject line ‘What nature means to me’ and include the following information in the email:

  • Entrant's first name
  • Entrant's age
  • The county in which the entrant resides
  • Parent/guardian's full name
  • Parent/guardian's confirmation that they consent to their child being entered into the competition

This competition is free to enter and no purchase or membership is necessary. 

3: Selection of the winning entries 

The entries will be shortlisted by Wildlife Trust BCN staff, with the finalists selected by the Young People’s Forum. 

A winner will be chosen by the Forum within 6 weeks of the competition ending. 

The parent/guardian of the winner will be notified by email within 7 days of being chosen. 

The first-place winner will receive a pair of junior Opticron binoculars and select a regular Wildlife Trust BCN Wildlife Watch or family event to attend for free (the prize includes a free child ticket, along with one free accompanying adult ticket). They will also have their entry printed in part in the Spring 2023 edition of our Wildlife Watch local newsletter. If the first-place winner is not a member of Wildlife Watch, and therefore would not usually receive a newsletter, the prize will include a free copy of the newsletter. 

The second-place winner will receive a bug house and select a regular Wildlife Trust BCN Wildlife Watch or family event to attend for free (the prize includes a free child ticket, along with one free accompanying adult ticket). 

The third-place winner will receive a bee brick and select a regular Wildlife Trust BCN Wildlife Watch event or family to attend for free (the prize includes a free child ticket, along with one free accompanying adult ticket). 

If a winner does not respond to The Wildlife Trust BCN within 14 days of being notified, then the winner’s prize will be forfeited and The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire will be entitled to select another winner. 

The prizes of the binoculars, bug house, and bee brick will be sent to the winners within 14 days of responding to The Wildlife Trust BCN. 

The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no cash alternative is offered. The Wildlife Trust BCN reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond The Wildlife Trust BCN’s control makes it necessary to do so. The winner will be contacted about how to book their Watch or family event tickets within 14 days. If not a Watch member, the Wildlife Watch newsletter will be sent to the winner at the time of publication, in early March 2023.

The decision of The Wildlife Trust BCN regarding any aspect of the competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it. 

4: Usage Rights 

By entering the competition, the parent/guardian grants WTBCN a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, including social media, the entrant's entry for any purpose to further its charitable aims and objectives. 

The organisers will make every reasonable effort to ensure that first name and age credits are given to any entry published in any medium for any purpose. 

5: Data Protection 

We value your privacy and promise to keep your personal details safe and secure, and we will never sell your data. 

The Wildlife Trust BCN Privacy Policy applies to the competition. You can find the privacy policy at www.wildlifebcn.org/privacy 

6: General 

The information given in these Terms & Conditions is correct, but The Wildlife Trust BCN reserves the right to change any of it without prior notice. By entering the competition, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. Any breach of these Terms by an entrant will void their entry. If a breach has occurred, but is discovered after the award of any prize, then the organisers may require the return of that prize.
