We are looking to recruit Supporter Engagement and Membership Volunteers who will play a crucial role in raising awareness of the work we do in the Nene Wetlands and ensuring that all visitors to the nature reserve have a positive and informative experience. We hope that this will then translate into support for the Wildlife Trust BCN through membership and volunteering.

We are currently looking for volunteers who would like to join our team at Rushden Lakes, in the role of Supporter Engagement and Membership Volunteer.

Our Nene Wetlands Visitor Centre, located within the Rushden Lakes Retail Park, provides us with a fantastic opportunity to engage with the public, including many people who are not usually regular visitors to our nature reserves.

You'll need a passion for both wildlife conservation and people engagement and will need to become actively involved with what is happening on the reserve, especially around Skew Bridge Lake and our Discovery and Education Areas.

The role can be flexible to your skills and interests, and will entail some or all of the following:

  • working with staff and other volunteers to provide a positive and welcoming first impression for all visitors
  • talking to visitors on the reserve and answering/’signposting’ initial questions and queries
  • providing information to visitors on wildlife sightings, events & activities, volunteering opportunities and Wildlife Trust membership
  • engaging customers to the visitor centre and to the nature reserve in accordance to the customer vision, thanking existing members for their support, talking to visitors about membership, gaining support (donations or new memberships) towards the conservation work of the Trust
  • helping with promotional events and manning mobile  information/ membership points on the reserve and the local area and in local communities

“We’re wild about inclusion! We want our people/staff to be as diverse as wildlife.  As an inclusive employer we recognise that our workforce needs to better reflect the communities in which we live and work.  We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and cultures.  We believe that a diverse workforce will help us create our vision of ‘people close to nature, with land and seas rich in wildlife.”
