A controversial plan to allow a 2,500 home development in north Cambridgeshire has been shelved

The Wildlife Trust welcomes the decision by Peterborough City Council to remove the allocation of a 2,500 home new development at Castor and Ailsworth from their Local Plan. The Trust along with many other organisations and individuals had objected to this housing allocation which would have resulted in significant damage to one of the best and most wildlife-rich landscapes in Peterborough.

Martin Baker, Conservation Manager at the Trust said: “This is excellent news. This huge new settlement would have resulted in less space for local wildlife and caused irreversible changes to ancient woodlands and the national nature reserve at Castor Hanglands.”
