House of Fraser and the Wildlife Trust work together to "bring the outdoors in"

This month, our new corporate partner, House of Fraser, opened their first green department store at Rushden Lakes Shopping Centre. The WildlifeTrust is pleased to be partnering with House of Fraser to ensure that the Nene Wetlands is protected and valued by all those visiting and working there.

Dr. Dorothy Maxwell, Head of Sustainability at House of Fraser, said: “We have become a corporate partner with The Wildlife Trust BCN to support their work protecting the Nene Valley wetlands at Rushden Lakes. We’re privileged to have our green flagship store in such a beautiful setting. Working with the  Trust team we can ensure we help protect it and raise awareness amongst our employees and customers.”

The Trust has also been working closely with the House of Fraser’s design teams to bring the ‘outdoors in’ and reflect the nature of the Nene Wetlands within this flagship store. Design features include a green, living, wall spanning two floors, bird sculptures and bespoke wallpapers, one of which uses a design by the Trust’s illustrator Rachel Hudson.

House of Fraser employees have also been getting out and about with our staff to learn about the unique wildlife of the Nene Wetlands which they will be sharing as they chat with their customers in the store.

We offered a range of activities for customers, staff family and friends at a pre-launch event for the store opening on 24 August with guided walks around Skew Bridge Lake, wildlife gardening and children’s craft activities and Trust staff were on hand to engage and enthuse everyone about ways to explore and engage with wildlife.
