Guided walk around Orwell Clunch Pit SSSI

This small site is managed by the Orwell Parish Council to maintain the interesting chalk flora and associated insects. Large anthills with wild thyme indicate the long period of established grassland, with plants such as spiny restharrow and horseshoe vetch. In recent years, a few Chalkhill Blue butterflies have been recorded, making use of the horseshoe vetch as caterpillar foodplants, while the bare chalk is the hiding place of the pale grey Chalk Carpet moth.
